Liposuction
Do you struggle with stubborn pockets of fat that don’t seem to respond to exercise or a healthy diet?
Sometimes, our bodies collect fat in genetically predisposed areas, such as the abdomen, underside of the chin, upper arms, waist, hips, thighs, and inner knees, resulting in a less-than-satisfactory body contour.
Fortunately, liposuction eliminates unwanted fat in any area of the body, helping to improve your body contour and proportion. The procedure is not a substitute for weight loss but rather a contouring technique that addresses troublesome fat deposits not amenable to diet or exercise.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
If your areas of concern deal with excess fatty pockets, then liposuction is an ideal solution. Candidates should be within 30 percent of their ideal weight and have firm, elastic skin to ensure good results. Lax skin does not easily conform to the new contours after the fat is removed, so additional procedures like a skin excision or a lift might be needed.
These body contouring procedures may include a tummy tuck or an arm lift.
It’s also important to be in good health and have realistic expectations of the procedure’s outcome.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia.
During the surgery, Dr. Ghere makes small incisions in the fat removal area and injects a saline solution to minimize blood loss and reduce pain. A thin, hollow tube commonly known as a cannula is then inserted through the incisions to suction out unwanted fat to create a smoother contour.
Liposuction may be performed alone, or the removed fat may be repurposed and added to other areas of the body through fat transfer. Here, fat is commonly added to the buttocks, breast, or face for natural enhancement.
Alternatively, liposuction is commonly performed during a Mommy Makeover, a comprehensive breast and body contouring procedure that includes breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, and tummy tuck surgery.
What Is Liposuction Recovery Like?
Following your surgery, you may experience some mild swelling and bruising in the treatment areas. Pain medication is administered to manage any discomfort. During this time, you will be required to wear compression garments for a few weeks to reduce swelling and maintain your new body contours as you heal.
Full recovery times range from several weeks to months, depending on the number of areas treated. Most patients can return to work after two weeks, but it may take longer for those in physically demanding jobs.
Visible results should begin to show as the swelling and bruising continue to subside.
What Results Can I Expect From a Liposuction Procedure?
Liposuction offers a permanent solution to stubborn fat deposits. You can expect to enjoy the long-term benefits of a slimmer, attractive, and more proportionate body contour. Patients are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent the fat from coming back.
In the event of weight gain, the remaining fat cells can expand, undoing the beautiful results of the procedure.
