A brow lift can recreate a youthful well-shaped brow.
No one needs reminding that the quality of our skin changes as we age. With time, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin, the cells in our skin and tissues weaken, and repeated facial movements leave lines and wrinkles.
While noticeable aging is seen across all areas of the face, the forehead area (including the brows) is one of the most significant and, unfortunately, not treated with a traditional facelift.
Brow lift surgery is performed to address visible aging on the forehead or drooping, sagging brows.
If you have noticed that your forehead has deep, horizontal creases or that your brows are sinking downward, a brow lift can help restore a more youthful appearance.

Am I a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery (forehead lift) is suitable for men and women of any age looking to reposition their brows and tighten their forehead tissues. Many people aim to create more youthful contours, and having a well-shaped and lifted brow will improve appearance and confidence.
If you think you might benefit from a brow lift, you must be:
- Physically healthy
- A non-smoker
- Realistic about expectations
Plastic surgery can restore you, or transform you.
How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
A brow lift is an outpatient procedure performed to elevate the eyebrows and smooth the forehead.
There are two techniques typically used during a brow lift: the traditional (classic) brow lift or the endoscopic brow lift. Dr. Ghere will discuss these two options in greater detail during your consultation to determine the right technique for your concerns.
Classic Brow Lift
During a traditional brow lift, also known as a coronal brow lift, a single incision is made across the hairline above the forehead.
The length of this incision allows Dr. Ghere to lift the skin and tighten the tissues, fat, and skin. This tightening of the tissues will raise the brow back to its youthful elevation.
Excess skin can be removed from the forehead using this technique. The incisions are secured using sutures.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic approach is the less invasive of the two options. It uses the assistance of an endoscope (a small, pencil-sized camera) to gain visualization of the forehead. Because of this visualization, Dr. Ghere will not need to make a single, long incision. Instead, she will make a series of small incisions behind the hairline, which leaves minimal scarring.
Through these small incisions, Dr. Ghere can tighten the forehead tissues.
The endoscopic technique does not allow for the removal of excess skin.
Do I Need a Brow Lift or an Eyelid Lift?
Many patients with laxity in the upper face are unsure whether they need a brow lift, an eyelid lift, or both. This is because sagging brows can occasionally put pressure on the upper eyelid, causing hooding and reduction of peripheral vision.
If the cause of the upper eyelid hooding is the pressure from the sagging brow, a brow lift is appropriate; however, if the laxity is from the skin on the eyelid, an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) will need to be performed in place of or alongside a brow lift.
Will I Need to Combine My Brow Lift With Other Facial Procedures?
Brow lift surgery addresses the top third of the face. Many patients choose to combine their brow lift surgery with eyelid surgery or facelift surgery to maintain facial harmony between the various features.
Alternatively, some patients choose non-surgical injectable options like BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers to restore youthful facial contours.
What Is Brow Lift Recovery Like?
The extent of your brow lift recovery will vary depending on the surgical techniques used. You can expect to experience bruising, swelling, and numbness in the area for several days or weeks. This will subside gradually.
Prescription or over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can be used to assist in pain and inflammation relief.
You will need to sleep with your head elevated for about a week after the surgery. Most patients can resume their normal activities at that time, but it is best to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for about one month.
What Results Can I Expect From a Brow Lift?
Following a forehead lift, many patients enjoy smoother, younger-looking facial features. The pressure of the brows against the eyes will be eliminated, and horizontal forehead lines will be smoothed.
Results are essentially permanent; however, this surgery does not halt the aging process, and additional laxity will develop with time. Since your facial tissues will be tightened, however, you will always look younger than if you had not had the surgery.
