Many women who have undergone breast augmentation cannot wait to show off their new breasts. However, breast augmentation is an extensive surgical procedure that requires an extended recovery period. Because each patient’s body heals differently, it can usually take between a few weeks and several months until your results become apparent. That is why it is important that you follow all post-operative instructions and take the proper precautions so that you have a safe and relaxing recovery. Below are a few tips we have provided that will help you feel less stressed as you heal.
Proper Recovery at Home
Get the Right Amount of Rest
Following your breast augmentation, your body may feel tired and weak due to the amount of correction that was needed during your procedure. Making sure to get plenty of rest can help your body recover quickly. It is also important that you lie down on your back, facing upwards, to protect your new contours.
Maintain a Healthy Diet
Sticking to a diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins is a great way for your body to get the appropriate nutrients it needs when recovering. Try to avoid eating foods that contain a lot of sugar and salt as this can cause your body to become bloated. Be sure you are also staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Avoid Strenuous Activities
During your recovery, you will be asked to avoid all strenuous activity to ensure no stress is put on your new breasts. However, it is encouraged that you take light walks around the house to prevent any blood clots from developing. You will be able to return to work one week following your breast augmentation.
Take the Proper Dose of Medication
Many women may experience some discomfort during their recovery. Your surgeon will provide you with medication to help with the pain. Be sure you only take the recommended amount as instructed by your surgeon.
Follow Up With Your Surgeon
Schedule a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to confirm that your body is healing properly and that you are not experiencing any post-operative complications. There may be some risks and side effects involved with breast augmentation. These include bleeding, infection, asymmetry, poor wound healing, and change in skin sensation. If you experience these or any other complications, make sure you contact your surgeon as soon as possible.
